Off the coast of Zhejiang Province, Putuoshan is one of China¡¯s four great Buddhist mountains. Pilgrims flood through the Ningbo ferry terminal all year round, on their way to view some of the 200 temples and religious landmarks that can be found here. Despite its popularity, the island is a peaceful retreat from the mainland. Busses around the island are cheap and plentiful, though for those willing to walk, views from the cliff-top roads are worth savouring. Visitors pay a fee for entry to the island and additional charges for access to the sandy beaches. For some fresh seafood, explore the stepped lanes that cover the hill behind Jin Beach on Putuoshan¡¯s Southern tip. Address: Ferries depart from Ningbo ferry terminal, Zhongma Lu |
